Alliance & Leicester - How dare they!

  • Really childish act, but in the best possible way!

I used to do something similar when I finally finished paying back the student loan company. Called them up a few times saying I was having problems making the monthly payments, waited for them to say 'but your account is cleared sir' and then say 'yeah, great isn't it!!!!' before laughing hysterically.

Utterley childish, achieved nothing, made them think I was a complete gimp...but made feel better nonetheless, especially if the person on the other end was talking down to me.

    Calchas,
I think you have answered your own question!
Banks no longer approve applications purely on the basis of credit worthiness.
They also model how profitable you are going to be to them.
If you apply asking for payment protection on a loan for example, or if they can see a modest overdraft and a few late payments they will lap you up because they can smell the juicy fees they can earn from you.
On the other hand if you are squeaky clean you stand out as someone who is going to 'game' their juicy intro offer but not be a loyal customer. They will therefore reject you as being 'unprofitable' not necessarily 'uncreditworthy'
    R.

I agree Rafter, but I am slighty annoyed I didn't give it a bit more thought at the time: I have used up a search on my credit rating and achieved nothing for it. Apart from the experience of course.

Surely Martin Lewis would have preferred it if you had advised me to go out and buy a copy.:D

Excuse my ignorance, but what does IMHO mean? I have guessed what OMG means but have failed spectacularly with IMHO. :o
  • in my honest opinion (IMHO) :D

Actually, I think Martin himself has made the suggestion of borrowing it from the library in the past. But I imagine many of the people who find it useful would end up wanting to own a copy.

It's actually "in my humble opinion". IMHO ;)

    1. Don't call me Shirley.

    2. To quote from page 1, "If you've just bought this book, why on earth didn't you borrow it from the library instead?"

Actually, the ideal MSE-style solution is to buy your own copy for future reference, but pay less than the RRP of £7.99 for it.
The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life. :)
