NCB car insurance

When a company says no claims bonus . Does that specifically mean if you have not made a claim then you put the amount of years you have been driving from.

I have been driving 17 years and not claimed so would I put 17 years. Sorry for sounding thick

  • It's how many years you can prove. Your new Insurers will most likely ask for the renewal invitation which shows how many years you have accrued. If you've been driving for 17 years but always as a named driver, the no claims bonus won't have been built in your name.
  • Have you had a policy continuously for the whole of that time? Was it in your name? What do your current insurers go up to? Some only go up to a certain amount of years, usually either 5 or 9.

As above, it's what you can prove. Whatever your current insurance company provides you proof of is what you can declare to the next insurer.

You only put 17 years if you have been the main policyholder for 17 years and had zero claims, and as long as your current insurer gives you a renewal with 17 years in it. Mines been on 9 years for a long time.

Never found a quote cheaper with more than 9 years so it doesnt bother me that i have actually been claim free for longer.

You put whatever number of years NCD it says on the renewal notice from previous insurer.

Pulldown box on my new insurer gives you options upto 9 years. My previous insurer, IAM Surety, asked for maximum years which in my case was 22, new insurer still cheaper by nearly £60.

I have always found IAM Surety insurance to be very expensive for two and four wheels.

Always been cheaper than other quotes after they agreed to better but this year wouldn't compete and made out they were offering a better deal even though more expensive. Now changed both car and home insurance to direct line.
