Advice re british gas amending data on credit report

Hi, Just looking for some advice please. Having recently checked my credit reports due to applying for a morgage i was shocked to see defaults on my account since 2013 to British Gas. Basically i left them , had to pay final balance which i did via debit card . To cut a long story short they didnt allocate it to my account so passed it onto debt collection adding fees on the way. All sorted now they admit they were wrong, cleared all charges etc account balance £0. Now i've asked them to amend my credit reports on the 8th of this month. They say it'll take up to 28 days. My question is, the morgage provider i am using checks noddle report. My new report is due in 6 days. If its not changed on this report will i have to wait another month to see the change or will i see the change as soon as its done?
I need it to relect on my account asap as the morgage lender dont allow any defaults and i'm on a time limit due to right to buy scheme. Once the defaults removed ( its the only default) am i likely to see a change in my credit score straight away or will it take a few months to get back up? many thanks

Hi bobbybuttons,
So, I assume British Gas have confirmed in writing that they will be removing the default from your credit file as it is inaccurate data but this can take 28days to show on the files? If that is the case then send a copy of this letter to your mortgage lender and explain that if they do a check in the next 28days they may see inaccurate data, however, this will be corrected. Hopefully, that will be sufficient for the lender.
Once the information is removed your rating will be more accurate and if this is the only negative recording on your file, it shouldn't affect your mortgage application any longer. Good luck,
Laura

Seems nobody at British Gas is able to provide me with written confirmation and am simply being told my account is clear and credit reference agencies will be updated, but when i ask when they cant tell me when and today they said my account shows settled. Don't seem to be getting anywhere and im just thinking they'll simply update my september payment to show as £0 and not remove all the late marks since 2013. Any idea where's best to go from here now, the lady i spoke to today has filed a class 2 complaint whatever that is for me but i can't see this getting me anywhere. Who do i go to next to sort this any ideas? thank you0

We are having a similar difficulty in that we have been rejected for a mortgage on the grounds of a financial association through British Gas. We have updated information and removed the offending association via British Gas but this was almost two months ago and they haven't updated with the Credit Reference Agencies. We have Calle dither several times and have been told numerous different stories e.g. "We can't do that - the credit reference agencies have to call us" "we can do it right away - we will send you a confirmation email shortly nad it will all be sorted out before close of business today" "It will update automatically within a few days" "It has to be done automatically and will update within the next 4 - 6 weeks"
The trouble is that we have been waiting for them to update with the CRAs for almost 2 months now and our house has sold - we are at risk of being homeless with a 7yr old child if British Gas don't get their act together! We have found a house to buy but dare not risk applying again for a mortgage until they have shared the information on. Our credit rating is good currently and we don't want another rejection to damage it! Does anyone know what the magic words are to get the record amended?? We are at our wits end with British Gas - I have zero faith in them to get anything done - it took us three attempts to get the incorrect information updated on their own records in the first place!0 -

Yes write and tell them that you are putting them on legal notice that if they don't rectify within the next 7 working days you will issue court proceedings and seek damages from them. That WILL do the trick as I've just done it with them. Threatening court action (and meaning it) is the only language they understand to motivate them to take action. I have been assigned a person in the complaints dept and he has called me three times this week to rectify. They now want to offer me compensation but I've told them I'm not in a position to discuss it yet until I've clarified a few things first elsewhere.0 -
I've just had a negative marker removed from my credit file. I spotted it last week and they have now removed it. They have replaced it with a U and they are adamant this is not negative but I've posted elsewhere about that. You have to put them on legal notice that you will issue court proceedings and seek damages (and mean it) if they don't remove the negative marker within the next 7 working days. They WILL then remove it.
