Hard check on credit score if I stay with E-on?

I've been waiting for the new energy collective in order for me to switch. I have only recently found out that E-on (my current provider) carried out a 'hard search' on my credit score. I've since looked at the MSE guide on energy companies and the types of searches they carry out when you sign up to them. As British Gas are now the new deal winner with the cheap energy club collective, I am reluctant to switch with them as they carry a 'hard search' too. My question is: If I sign up to E-on's revised deal (which is at the moment only £5 more expensive than BG) will they carry out another 'Hard search'?

Yes it seems normal for them to carry out a credit check if you are a new customer with E.on. However if you sign up for another deal like me with E.on I have never found them to credit check again. Only when I initially joined them.0 -
Yes Eon are the only supplier I know who are sensible enough to do a hard credit check for new customers on credit meters. All the others should do the same given the amount of fraud with new customers on credit meters. I m baffled why they dont, after all they are risking a couple of thousand pounds of credit on the gas/electric energy bills. Its very common for people to move in pay a little to start with and then stop paying for as long as possible until the suppliers have to get a warrant to access the meters to fit prepayment meters. The fraudsters make sure to pick rental properties with credit meters.Good on Eon ! stupid on the rest.0

Good morning Cici Bijou and welcome to the forums.
We do perform and external credit when you join us, but we don't do it again if you're staying with us and changing on to a new tariff.
We'll also do a credit check if you had a pre-payment meter and wanted to change to a normal credit meter, it's free of charge though.
There's a bit more information on the website if that helps.
Thank you
