Hi I need some help understanding my pip claim ! I originally was on dla lower care up till I was diagnosed with cancer in may this year , the mamilla nurses got me to apply for pip in may and put my forms in after which I had my home visit in august! Today I was awarded enhanced care and enhanced mobility but to add to my confusion it says my award will start on 12th October ? Firstly why is it October when my claim was may and secondly will it be back paid as there is no mention of this in the letter I tried to speak to them but it was always busy after an hour !!! Thanks in advance for any help gratefully appreciated

Perhaps it may not start till October because your cancer was diagnosed in May, and you need to fulfil a requirement to have care needs for six months before your claim starts.
I say perhaps because I don't know your circumstances and have not seen your decision letter.0 -

Because the OP was on DLA before even though they reported a change of circumstances there won't be any back pay simply because they were claiming DLA before. Even tho their PIP award is higher there still won't be any back pay. PIP will start about 4 weeks after their DLA stops. As sad as it is, unfortunately this is the rules.
And just to qualify this. The PIP award starts approximately 4 weeks after the PIP decision as there is a 'run on' of the DLA for 4 weeks.0
