Whats app messages help please

I have changed my phone from apple to samsung this week. I downloaded whats app on my samsung and logged in with the same mobile number as always. I noticed I had lost all my chats so went back and logged in my iphone to find no previous chats there either. All i want to know is are they permanently deleted since i can no longer access them? TIA

Your chats are saved onto your phones memory daily. If you wanted to keep them you needed to back them up with the in app backup function, or, you lose them.....Options - settings - chat history - Back up chat history.
You may be lucky if you put the sim back in the iphone and then do the backup, slim chance they could still be there.......Worth a try?

No I didnt back them up. If they have gone they have gone just wanted to know if they would be gone forever or lingering somewhere.
