Hi
I have a HP laptop about three years old, windows 10.
Over the past few days the number pad and arrow keys have gone weird, for example if I type
1 - 41
2- 52
3 - .3
4 - 41
5 - 52
6 - 6+
7 - /7
8 - *8
9 - -9
0 - 0
/ - /7
* - *8
- - -9
+ - 6+
has anyone any ideas what I can do to retify this, I didn't realise how much I used the keypad
many thanks

Just to be clear, are you saying that if you press the 1 on your number pad (on the right of your keyboard) then it actually inputs 41 ??
Is this in a certain program, or across the board ?0 -
Dirt in the keys!0

I don't have a separate keypad so I can't be sure of the layout but it does look to me like two adjacent keys are being registered every time you press one, which does suggest contamination of some sort. Full fat soft drink spill, full of nice sticky sugar, perhaps?0

Hardware fault, there's a pattern to these errors if you look at the keyboard and think about it.
Basically I would say it's a stuck key (for many reasons), contamination or possibly a dodgy ribbon cable inside the keyboard.
To be perfectly honest, i'm an electronics engineer and even I would just get a new keyboard (and my keyboard was over £80 6 years ago).
You can get a normal keyboard for under £15, that's practically free.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

thanks everyone, nothing has been spilt on the board.
Its a laptop, is it easy to get a keyboard.back to comping :beer:0 -
HP have made many, many laptops, and keyboards over the years. What model is your laptop?
Step 1 is to take your laptop apart, and clean the keyboard, and test it. That might fix it.
Step 2 is then to get onto eBay and buy another keyboard if necessary, and fit it.
Step, er, zero, would be to back everything up!0 -
An air duster under the number pad might do the job, and will save you taking it apart,
which can be a pain depending on the model.
Also, you may find that the individual keys just "pop off" with a little leverage.
Pop them off and see if there is any crumbs etc under there0
