Removing thanks

It's not a big deal, but I was wondering if there was a time limit for removing thanks on a post.

Green format.
A couple of times when re-reading a post, I went to click on 'show me' in order to see the thanks, and inadvertently clicked on 'remove thanks' by mistake. Both times I got an error message telling me that I did not have permission to access that page.

So I experimented and thanked a post, and then clicked on 'remove thanks' straight away, and it worked.

That got me wondering if there were a time limit for removing thanks, which I guess there must be, and what that time limit might be.

Thank you! :)

How far back did the post in question go, Pyxis? I've just tried to remove my thanks from a post dated 19 July (just as a trial!) and it worked. This is using the green format site, too. Maybe your post was older?

No! It was only a couple of days!

I fact, I just tried it again, on one I did yesterday, and the same thing happened!

This is the message I get.....

"Pyxis, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:

Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.
    Log Out Home"

I wasn't trying to do any of those things, just experimenting with removing the thanks!

How odd! Could it be something to do with browser/version, do you suppose? (I'm currently using Chrome on Android 5.1.1)

Well, , I'm on Safari, using an iPad.

It is weird as it's never happened before!

(Not that I go around removing thanks, you understand,, but there has been the odd, rare time when I've clicked the thanks by mistake on a contentious post and so needed to remove it! :D)

lol I know what you mean! (Part of the reason for staying with the Green format on my phone is because with the Blue format, it was far too easy to click Spam or Report without meaning to, just by trying to navigate via the touch-screen.)

I've only ever used Android/Windows, but just lately I've noticed that sometimes features like the Thanks button suddenly have vanished on my phone, then they return again just as mysteriously. I wondered if there might be updates to the site in progress at these times, but it's only a guess. Sorry, that's not very helpful to you really.

Where are the Technical Team when they're needed?! :rotfl:

Yes, I've noticed the thanks buttons disappearing and reappearing, too.
Well, let's hope it is just site maintenance.
I was just a bit perturbed to see the words " you do not have permission.................the administrator may have disabled your account......."

Gave me a bit of a shock, 'cos I'm a good girl, I am! :rotfl:

I have seen a message like that before, but on a completely different website not affiliated to MSE in any way. It came up when I was trying to click Like on a post - my Like hadn't appeared and so I tried again (thinking I hadn't done it properly the first time). In my case, it said something like I didn't have permission to undo this action, then talked about an Administrator may have disabled account/certain permissions etc. Wonder if both sites were built using the same software, could be a glitch in that I suppose?

I'm not sure we still have one, as such.

At least not one that will directly comment on any problems.
Any responses seem to come from non-technical MSE staff.
They might rely on contractors/their larger group owners to do any changes that are required now.

If this is not correct, perhaps MSE could explain the current situation.

    Hi Pyxis

I don't think there is a time limit for removing your "thanks" from posts, although I might be wrong. I felt I had to remove my thanks to posts a couple of times before. On one I got the "do not have permission" and another time I was able to just remove it. Not sure why the no permission comes up though. You are definitely not the only one it has happened to.
