You can read it how you like, but I didn't see fatbelly as being sarcastic...

And fatbelly was commenting on in your original SOA it appeared that one of the reputable debt help charities thought you were eligible. Both sourcrates and fatbelly have been around the block here a fair few times. They are trying to help you and have asked several times about missing expenses which has then been filled in retrospectively.

The point of an SOA is to declare EVERYTHING - if you spend £100 on a holiday saving each month then WE NEED TO KNOW. SUre the reply might be "ok drop it for now" but if you don't tell us how can we hope to give you a meaningful solution?

Either lay it all on the table and the people giving their time here for free will do all they can to help you, or speak directly to one of the debt charities again :) They are however likely to ask you for the same level of detail as us...;)

Consider my wrists slapped good and proper.
I appreciate all feedback but what nobody is taking into account is that I am new here, no good with money and learning as I go. If it is a prerequisite that I know all the answers to all of the questions that are asked to me then maybe there should be a note on that particular board stating what information is required prior to posting.
I am quite annoyed that some replies have been sarcastic (in my opinion) and others made with no thought about how the poster may feel.
I am sorry if I havent got all the answers or that the answers I have given maybe inaccurate but as I said earlier I have only just started to try and sort this mess out and If i knew all the answers I would not have posted on here in the first place.

I'm not in the business of wrist slapping -if I want to do that I'll go and tell my CEO what he's doing wrong and to stop bugging me ;)

Take a deep breath - people are trying to help you - none of us know ALL the answers to everything, things in writing can often come across as harsher than they were written or be read differently depending on what state of mind the reader is in.

We have all been in varying states of debt, or still are. We understand the stress, seriously if anyone is going to understand the stress it will be the folks on here!

Likewise people can get frustrated when answers change and they can't see an explanation - ie the debt totals. It's not a dig but it went from over £20k, to under to £15k... given the possible solution you were looking at depends on a VERY specific debt level then it's something that gets picked up and picked apart because otherwise the advise given could be wildly inappropriate.

If you don't know the exact answer to an amount (and bear in mind we work down to the penny at times here) then just say so :) It means less room for misunderstanding on both sides in my view :)

Well done on wanting to address the issues - and to return to topic - have you checked that you are getting all the benefits you are entitled to? Benefits are not my forte but it seems a household income of £34kish should be entitled to more... Have you checked http://www.entitledto.co.uk/benefits-calculator/startcalc.aspx?utm_source=BAdviser&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=GovUK

Make sure you are claiming anything you're entitled to!

  • Hi,
with regards to the SOA - look at your bank statements over the last 3 months if possible and work out where every single penny is going. it's a long and boring job but really in necessary for advice to be given.

Sorry you feel that comments have been sarcastic, I doubt they were meant to be taken that way. The 2 posters really are great with advice :)

It's a big thing to face up to and publicise debt so well done on that and don't get despondent

I think it's worth bearing in mind that your first SOA did look a little odd. £100 a month on car tax for example. £1200 a year on car tax? You can see, I hope, why people started asking questions.

It's easy to say "I buy presents out of that month's income" - that's fine but then you look at who you buy presents for, how much you generally spend and then average it out over 12 months. Same for Christmas, holidays, etc.

People are trying to help but it's very difficult to do so unless the information provided is accurate. Advice from your first SOA would be different to the advice from your second SOA. Sometimes the advice is harsh because it needs to be. If you can't service the bills for your own family then you shouldn't be looking after your sister and having an honest conversation with her about that would be a starting point. If ceasing to help your sister is an absolute no-no then you need to start looking at the bills you can do something about (TV/SKY/mobile etc). People are only trying to help. To help, they have questions. If you don't want to answer them then that's fine but the help will then be limited.

Your second SOA still has some gaps. You have 2 cars. You have said you don't pay tax or insurance on your company car but what about your wife's car. You're accounting for her only income (in child benefit) but then not accounting for her expenses such as the car. Hope that makes sense.

Thanks for your sarcastic response. The reason I came on here was for help not to be dug at. I am trying to be as honest as I can and relay things as I have been told them.
Maybe you could of just asked me why there was a discrepancy?

    Hi,

Fatbelly does not need me to "stick up" for him, but i feel i must tell you he works as a Citizens Advice Intermediary, and is very used to dealing with these type of issues.

He just comes out with sensible solutions to posters problems, sarcasm does not form any part of that advice, just good olde common sense solutions.

You would be wise to take note of his advice woody.
