Home Insurance - Mistake on Policy

Evening.

I have a question which although hypothetical, obviously can be very important in the future.

We moved two years ago. When we took out the policy (through a comparison site) we stated we were about to buy the property; but this does not appear to have been noted as our documents state that we have lived in the house for longer than 5 years.

Before I phone them up and make them aware I have a few things that might concern me:
  • If I make a future claim, could they throw it out on this issue.
  • Would it just make more sense to move companies at the next renewal?

The renewal is due next month, so I would not be looking to leave early/penalties, etc.

Not likely, unless the issue was relevant to the claim.

Either get it changed (the right thing to do) or cross your fingers and change at renewal. You could do an anonymous dummy quote to see if your insurer would have charged more.
