Our 1400 spin bosch a full load dries in our 8kg Grundig under 2hr.
your load should be under 2hr probably as low as 1:30 if your spin is very good.
I find it does not matter that much how long it takes with a bit of planning as you only spend 5 mins doing a full set of load unloads for a wash and dry.
those JL models are not that good on the energy ratings.
8kg JL is over 300, a good machine will be closer to 230.
newer machines are getting under 200 the heatpumps will be better
sweet spot are the A++ energy A rated condensation machines
the condensation ranges are quite wide so check the actual % if you can find it, looking for over 90%.
it's worth reading up on how the spec sheets are done and what the ratings mean to understand how they get an annual consumption so you can match it to your typical loads.
(can't find a link I think I may have posted in another hread)
Thanks.
Actually the 7kg J/L drier quotes 260.
The J/L units time of 159 min/cycle and 260 Kw/annum compare well with an A++ Bosch one costing £799 + £95 for 5 year warranty (157 min/cycle and 258 Kw/annum).
The J/L 7kg heat pump is only £404, plus £75 for a 5 year warranty. I'd rather pay £475 than nearly £900, if the performance figures can be believed.
Our washing machine is 6kg max, so the 7kg would suit fine.

Great stuff everyone. I'm looking at a John Lewis heat pump model JLTDH21 (7kg), which appears to be a rebadged AEG. They also do an 8Kg version.
So some questions for 'bouncydog1' and 'missile': You have either AEG or John Lewis rebadged AEG model. What do you think of them?
In particular, how long does it take to do a standard load of cotton stuff? (I'm thinking here of, say, 7 of each of the following - shirts, boxers, pairs of socks and three tee shirts). Some of the reviews of the 8KG version (there aren't any reviews for the smaller one) mention that the drying time is a bit longer than expected, perhaps because it uses a lower drying temperature. Overall though the reviews are very good (except for one poor one).
Also, on the Energy label for both machines it says '181 min/cycle', with a timer symbol above. Is this saying that will take at least 3 hours to dry clothes - surely not?
We used a venting type while on holiday and it seemed pretty quick. Now I'm wondering if our expectations are a bit high - are condenser models just slower to dry?
Edit: sorry, one more question. A reviewer mentioned some condensation in the small room they were using their dryer in but they just opened a window. Is condensation a problem with condenser/heat pump types? That's something I wasn't expecting either.
Thanks.
Sorry for delay in replying - I have been away.
I have an AEG one (not a rebadged one and do check as a wine cooler JL sells looks identical to the AEG one and its actually made by Daewoo I think - I rang and asked them).
My AEG is the T96695IH pro tex plus heat pump condenser dryer, which takes a 9kg load so great for drying bedding. Its actually A++ energy rating. Absolutely no condensation and doesn't put out a lot of heat - a little bit which will help with the heating in the utility room in the winter.
You can choose the programme either by type - e.g. jeans or by time. You can also set the spin speed from the washing. It has a timer delay which is in 30 minute bands and the finish time shows up on the dial. Also has a super quiet setting which I use when I put it on at night on economy 12 electric rates. AEG often do cashback offers so I got an additional £100 off the price which AEG paid directly into my bank account a few days after I filled in the online claim form.
Go onto the AEG website, because they have links to retailers on there and JL is included. There is a promotion on at the moment where you can save up to £75.
I think its fantastic so I'm going to buy the matching washing machine and get shot of my noisy hotpoint!!0 -

Thanks for that. I've looked at the AEG site and the cashback doesn't seem to apply to Tumble Driers - only refrigeration and dishwashers. Not to worry. Thanks again.0 -
I think you can get better for cheaper and still have a 5y warranty
don't forget a 8kg machine doing smaller loads will be less than on the datasheet roughly a 230 8kg machine will be closer to 205 on a 7kg load.
Try and find the full specs(EU product fiche) for the machines shortlisted not just the label0 -
One more question - does size matter much? Our w/machine is 6Kg max so I thought a 7Kw dryer would be fine. But bouncydog1 mentions bedding. Is a 7Kg one a bit small for drying sheets? Although there are only two of us in the household, we have two large beds (one for guests) so the bedding is a bit on the big size.
Is this an issue?

All three actually, but I missed a comma after 'one'.owen_money wrote: »The tumble dryer or parents?0 -

I have a Zanussi Lindo 300 Condenser Dryer, which I've been using for 18 months and am very happy with.
I didn't know you had to clean the condenser! Just done. Very easy, and very little fluff.0
