If you are going to use a live distro to test the wireless card then the following may help. Using a windows tool called Yumi you can put a number of linux distros on one USB stick http://www.pendrivelinux.com/yumi-multiboot-usb-creator/.
Best live linux distros are Linux Mint , PCLinuxOS, Knoppix.0 -

You're in luck as there is a whitelist modded BIOS which happens to be the latest BIOS for your friends machine. Use at own risk.
