Hi,
I've been given a quote to install a log burner in a two bedroom terrace house for £1600 including VAT, just wondering if this seems reasonable?
This includes hearth, chimney liner (UK manufacturer), oak beam (which we're not sure about yet), installation and some building work (install concrete lintel, line opening with fireboard & plaster work)

I had a wood burner installed back in Feb/March - Quotes varied from just over £1000 to £1600. The higher quotes included scaffolding to reach the top of the chimney whilst the cheapest one, the guys were happy to work off ladders.
If access is good for your property, and the installer insists on scaffolding, try suggesting a cherry picker - These can be hired for around £200 a day against the £400 for scaffolding. Her courage will change the world.
Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.0 -
I've just paid £1850 for one to be installed (plus stove cost), including capping the gas pipe, removing gas fire, widening the brickwork opening, riven slate hearth, new flue pipe and liner.
I have also had to pay extra for a roofer to clear an opening on the rosemary tiles, and plasterer to finish the recess. We got £150 off the already discounted price of the stove by using the fitter's trade account as well.0 -
Ours was just under £2000 to remove gas fire, everything indicated above plus an extra hearth in our bedroom, slate hearth for fire (he saw us coming...!) and defra/ HETAS approved installation. Plus all done in 1 day. We are in London.:T0

I paid £1700 for the following:
Widen & heighten fireplace recess.
Fire board & plaster recess & surround.
Supply & install Indian sandstone flagstone hearth.
Supply & install flexi & twinwall flue system including rain cowl, storm collar & roof flashing.
Supply & install stainless steel register plate, m.a adapter & offset vitreous stove pipe with sweeping access.
Install stove with Hetas certification.
All done over 2 days. I'm well pleased with the result
I know I could of got it cheaper if I bought the parts myself and I could of potentially fitted them and then got it signed off. But I didn't really want to mess around with this0
