UKPC very large fines for multiple tickets (over a year) ... Do I just pay up?

I live in a privately owned flat with one allocated underground parking space. As I share this flat with someone else one of us (and two regular visitors) have always been parking in one of the empty bays in the outdoor car park of the flats. These are controlled by UKPC. We have been ignoring tickets, fines and debt threats for a year as we stupidly thought it would be fine and one of us has now been presented with a county court letter for £1270. Four of us have been parking like this for the year so we are all expecting these letters. I am unsure of what the spaces we have been parking in are allocated for - they are for permit holders but I don't think they are for residents as they do not have a resident number on them like all of the resident spaces. I think they may possibly be for people who work in the shops under the flats but there are only two shops actually open, so there are always spaces available.

I know we are in the wrong and if we have to pay the £1270 each then I would rather try and agree a cheaper settlement and start paying it now than getting myself in deeper.

I now know clearly this was an incredibly stupid thing to do but it's done now and I would really appreciate some advice instead of judgement, we are young and have learnt our lessons.

Thank you

Please read the Sticky thread for NEWBIES about how you should have handled this unregulated scam.

In post 1 you will find a link to a step by step guide to court by Bargepole, who is a expert in these matters.

You can also but a very cheap guide to court from the Parking Prankster's blogsite.

Ignoring private parking tickets has not been advised since the law changed in 2012.

Whoever has received the court claim needs to acknowledge it as per the guides saying they will defend it, but do not enter anything in the defence box.

I am not an expert so you may need to wait until the dayshift clock in to get more detailed advice. You should note that UKPC were caught doctoring time stamps on photo' evidence and banned for a period from obtaining keeper data from the DVLA. Any pictures they produce as "evidence" should be robustly challenged.

Read Anthony94's thread. He had a similar claim for 4 figures from UKPC 7 months ago and he won at his court hearing. It would be DAFT not to fight - not least because even if you lost, you'd pay less than UKPC have increased the sum to! UKPC will not negotiate, so fight.

You all need to stop ignoring the letters, especially a 'Letter before Claim/Letter before Action' which should have been responded to!

The person with the actual claim needs to come here and post about it, after acknowledging the claim online on MCOL, leaving the defence box blank. Read the NEWBIES thread under 'Small Claim?' (especially bargepole's post linked there).

As much as I am against this type of trespass, I am far more ill-dsiposed to this company. Read this

UKPC are former clampers who have been involved in quite a number of sordid scams, for example

Hull Trading Standards took them to court on 15 counts of fraud. UKPC won all but one, but only because they had a better lawyer, a Q.C. If I recall correctly

    http://forums.pepipoo.com/index.php?showtopic=63597

They were bested by a Winchester barrister
    http://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?377246-UKPC-liable-for-trespass-**SUCCESS**

They were involved in a large scale scam which resulted in a DVLA suspension

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/crime/11858473/Parking-firm-UKPC-admits-faking-tickets-to-fine-drivers.html

They are in trouble in court

And then of course there was Tracey Kiss
