Exploding Cooker Hood

We purchased a cookology VER600VK cooker hood from the wright buy ltd in August last year on ebay. It sits at about 45 degrees and has a dark glass centre panel and separate matching glass frame. About two weeks before the 1 year warranty expired hubby came home to find that the glass frame had exploded. There were small pieces of glass all over the kitchen. Thank goodness there was no one in the kitchen at the time! We are still finding slivers of glass in the oddest places over a month later
We approached the wright buy ltd as the cooker hood was still under warranty. We would have been happy to have a replacement frame spare part rather than replace the whole unit and potentially ruin the tiling in our new kitchen. They claim that no spare parts exist. However they refused to do anything about it. They claim we dropped something on the hood. We didn't! There was nothing above the hood, plus, the glass frame only extended about 1 cm from the main body of the hood so it would be almost impossible for anything falling from above to hit the glass. There has been much toing and froing and the wright buy have even admitted to calling us liars in the last heated exchange, based on the fact that the unit failed 2 weeks before the end of the warranty. We have contacted ebay who have been unable to help. The original advert says there is a 3 year manufacturers warranty but the wright buy are refusing to honour this
Is there anything else we can do to make the wright buy honour either the 1 year warranty or the 3 year manufacturers warranty? Or do we just have to wright this off?
Thanks

Are Wright Buy the manufacturers of the cooker hood? If not, you need to take up the 3 year warranty with whoever is. Although a quick google suggests they may be. What are the terms of the 3 year warranty with regards to claiming on it?

Also, who is the 1 year warranty with, and again what are the terms associated with it?

The manufacturer's warranty is provided by the manufacturer, not the seller. Do you have any means of contacting them?
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

Do you have documentation on the 3 year warranty (i.e. not just your recollection of the original advert)? Their current advertising says there is a "Full 12 Month Manufacturer's Guarantee".
  • No. Can't find anything on line and the wright buy won't tell us
  • That's interestin i was sure it said but maybe i am mistaken. Even so the unit failed within 12 months

After 6 months its up to you to prove its faulty , i guess its not worth the time getting a independent report when you can buy a new hood for under £100
