We have just replaced our Kirby of 22 years. We paid £1200. We had it serviced for 17 years at an ave of £50 per year = £850. So total £2005.00.
    Let's average you clean your carpets once a year - 3 carpets, would be £150 ( at least ) So x 22 = £3300 - even at £100 per year that's £2200.
If you don't clean your carpet regularly then........
I've also used it to vacuum every day for 22 years ( 8030 days - £1.68 per week - in an ave 3 bed house that's 42p per week per room - 6 pence a day) so I'm more than happy.
My relatives had a cleaning firm so I've tried all kinds of vacuums over the years and nothing comes close.
Yes the salesmen are pushy, yes it costs megabucks, yes it's heavy - but it works.
I'd rather use a machine that is efficient so it saves me valuable time.
We have dogs ( and children!!) so need a machine that is effective and reliable - and for me the Kirby is value for money.
Most people want a great car and are prepared to pay for that.
I wanted a great vacuum cleaner so I have more time to spend doing the more exciting things in life and - I like my house to be clean.
A good investment - as long as you save up for it first and don't have to use finance.

So kind of you to join mse simply to extoll the virtues of a very expensive vacuum cleaner.

My parents had one for about 30 years, in the end it became to heavy for my mum to lug about the big house and down the extension. I believe it's still working and stashed in the air raid shelter- I remember the cat would run a mile when she saw the little light on the front coming for her.

Also a Kirby vac helped me get laid as a teenager! A girls dad had a fearsome reputation for being in your face and protective and on my first meeting with him he was giving me a "talk" about his daughter when I spotted their Kirby in the kitchen and said "we've got one of those". Job done, ice broken. He even lent me his Pink Floyd at Pompei video and I had a great night with his daughter, ahem.

Must thank my parents for investing in one.

Some people are just so suspicious and cynical. ;)
  • Never heard of Kirby vacs before! My Numatic/Henry works fine. I suppose if money were no object I might get a Miele, - they are a very good make.
  • G-Tech Air Ram K9 - Had it a few months and love it. G-Tech have just released a MkII (better battery life etc).

Even Matt (Techmoan) thinks its great!

    Love watching Techmoan's videos.

We've got a G-Tech handheld and it's brilliant. Wish I'd bought the upright at the same time.

About 25 yrs or so ago Kirby were all the rage, as were Vorvork. My friend bought a Kirby she didn't like it much and it was very heavy and hard to manouvre . I got a Vorvork, it was a lot of money (but a bit cheaper than the Kirby I think) but it's still going strong and it is a good vacuum,it also had a steerable head long before Dyson 'invented' the ball thing
