What you need to do is to sell all the houses that you have got now and then when you have the cash think about what you would like to invest for the future and what you would like to put into your bigger home..
    Indeed.

Free up the equity and then diversify it:

    * some into a pension that can be topped up from salary monthly
    * some as deposit for new home (place to live, not investment)
    * some into investments (ISA unit trusts?)

The amounts in each are a matter for further consideration/advice

I too cannot believe you are hanging onto a house (abroad) that is costing you money each month and which you have no intention of ever using
  • Thank you Cake and GM
So, realistically, I need to sell the house abroad asap! I know, I know....also the terrace too ( I'd love to be able to keep it though, if was our first home)
  • Sorry I pressed reply too soon.
I also I need to pop by the Saving and Investments forum and learn sthg, I feel we are way behind where we should be.
I feel a bit more clear about this all, thank you all:0)

love this house but unfortunately it's getting smaller

    "Honey, I shrunk the house...."?:)

In your position I'd sell the terrace and the foreign property and buy a family home.

Have you and your partner obtained new state pension forecasts?

Do you not work outside the home?

If you do, what arrangements are there for a company pension?

If you have no earned income you can still contribute up to £2880 per annum to a pension scheme and receive tax relief of £720.
  • Xilophone, I think that's the overall consensus, sell it all :0)
I haven't got a clue about a pension tbh ( hangs head in shame). My parter has one, we are not married, we run a small business.
I really need to get myself educated;0)
