I've never watched it, so I'm clearly in the BBC is right camp.

I wonder if the company has been too greedy and if the programme will flop on C4.

Words, words, they're all we have to go by!.

(Pity they are mangled by this autocorrect!)
  • I'm not bothered about Bake-Off either (although my wife is) but the principle applies to lots of other programs, ie SPORT. Time the BBC moved on to full commercialisation and then it could get back the best of (live) Sport which those of us only having terrestrial TV could then watch again.
  • Only under 25's thought it priceless . How many pay a tv licence is your next poll.

I've never watched it, however it is probably right of the BBC to allow it to go before paying over the odds from the (greedy) production company. Pay into the demands this year and chances are the production company will put the price up again the following year.

Although if it will do half as well on channel 4 remains to be seen, depends on keeping the two judges, and getting a good replacement for the presenters, trying hard not to mess up the show (as much as allowed due to the advert breaks and probable sponsorship).
  • Licence fee has not been raised for some time, value of licence fee is no longer worth what it used to, due to inflation. If the Beeb kept this show at the new cost something else would have to go and there would be complaints about that! If external production company is going to push costs up due to greed then I agree that the show should go to another broadcaster.

Can they get rid of Eastenders, The one show and anything else connected to Chris Evans next please. The U.K. has been dumbed down enough now. The streets are full of knuckle draggers please stop the brain rot BBC.
  • If the BBC had used studios at home with video views screened behind them etc, they would have saved a fortune sending the entire football sports team to the Euros and the sports department to the Olympics. No need to have them all over there and money saved could have been put to better use and maybe towards this. They always have to have commentators and analysts at the events when they could watch them in the studios. They set up studios at football grounds etc which is wasteful and unnecessary. Then there's over population. One England game I saw the last 5 minutes and five minutes of analysis. Total number of people I saw or heard, 8. Wasteful so no wonder they are losing out. Paying OTT and losing shows and events is acceptable but not when so much licence money is wasted. That could be used to keep popular programmes and even channels rather than spent to allow too many of the old pals network to have cheap holidays.

Competitive cake baking shouldn't be interesting, but somehow it managed to be enthralling.

It sounds like the programme makers got greedy and just wanted too much money from the BBC. They have already lost Mel and Sue http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/entry/great-british-bake-off-mel-and-sue_uk_57d81230e4b00f741734b2e9 so we'll have to see if it's even worth watching on channel 4.

Interestingly enough, it is not just cake baking. They always have bread and last night, as a complete change, it was batter. They had to make Yorkshire puddings and it was quite funny, some of the results were hilarious:rotfl: I thought I was the only person who can't make Yorkies to save my life, but no, I am not alone:p

I think the BBC should have kept it but understand it is about money, as everything seems to be these days. I know there are BOff bashers on MSE but whatever they think it is one of British televisions most successful programmes
  • GBBO is made by "Love Productions" - perhaps they should change their name to "Love Money Productions"?
  • My wife likes it, I can't stand it and Mary Berry looks like skeletor.
Nothing to see here, move along.
