Old Gas Meter

Hi there,
Just moved into a new house and I have an old gas meter in the front room which is no longer in use as the property now has a smart meter. How would I go about getting this removed? would British Gas do it?
Cheers,
Matt

Some of the links don't work but if you go here http://www2.nationalgrid.com/UK/Our-company/Gas/Gas-Distribution-Network/
it will indicate who you need to contact based on where you live0
