Studio flat first time paying bills so confused
Hi im just moving into a studio flat in london
The landlord told me im responsible for all bills i just dont know where to start because he has not told me which company supplies the current electricity and ive tried to go through uswitch and other comparison sites to get the best deal but they are asking for previous supplier details and an MPAN number am i doing something wrong?
Also how do I go about paying council tax. As this is a house that has been extended with a studio flat to the side and the main house split into rooms.
Also Will i need to do a TV licence.
My landlords communication skills are not great hence why im so confused as ive asked him who supplies previous electricity and he is not sure i think hes just purchased this property.
Thanks for the help.

Council tax is easy - just contact the local council, and tell them the date you moved in.
TV Licence - yes you'll need one - it can all be done online now.
Not sure about the electricity, given you don't know who currently supplies. It might be worth calling an electricity company of your choice and setting it up that way, rather than online.0 -
Council tax - phone the council, tell them you've moved in.
TV Licence - yes, you need one.
Suppliers - info on this page of who to ring to find out who they are. It's a different process for gas and for electricity.

Water - there's only one company in your area, you can't change water suppliers, you get what you've got and everybody's got that one in your region. You might find there are two companies - some areas have a supplier for water and a supplier for sewage.0 -
My electricity meter has a sticker on it that tells me the supplier is E-ON. Have you checked your meter ? Also I would take your own meter reading the minute you move in so that once you manage to speak to your supplier they will know where to start calculating your bill (just in case the previous occupant didn't pay their final bill).0

I don't really know what advice I can suggest.
All I can say is that I have had a quick look at your past posts, and wish you the very best of luck!0 -

My electricity meter says Siemens, but I can't seem to find them at all on uSwitch.
Any advice please?

You will then end up getting a bill from the previous supplier, months down the line for an estimated amount. This is normally far, far greater than the amount you used.
Finding the current supplier is easy

Once established, give them a call with the meter readings.0 -
