Public motorcycle parking

Hi,

Where I park in town with my motorcycle the area/MC park is now being permanently shut due to us having a new road system. They will be moving us bikers about 1/3 a mile away over the other side of town.

Theres a few smaller bike parks dotted about and these get heavy use and I will try one of those smaller ones first. Don't have a problem with that as its first come first served ( however I do the school run so cant get there any earlier )

My problem is theres 2 of these smaller bike parking areas that are fairly close to the one being shut. However there is a dominoes pizza in town and they park all of their delivery bikes there most of the day and night like its some private car park!!

Can dominoes do this? ( as its taking the Michael really ). Is it worth belling the council? Anyone else? If they are treating it as their own private car park should the taxman be informed lol?

Cheers.

It must be worth asking the council. If the riders own their own bikes; then they're probably as entitled as you are to park there but if the bikes are owned by Domino's then there might by a by-law about commercial vehicles using the spaces. My local lot just park on the pavement...

They aren't commercial vehicles - they're still motorcycles.

The pizza place will store the bikes securely when the store's closed, so they'll only be on the road while the store is open - and the bikes are likely to be off for delivery at any time.

They're taxed, insured, MOTd (if old enough), so they have exactly the same right to use a parking bay as any other motorcycle.
  • As they are all parked next to each other I wonder if a nudge will make them fall like dominoes ;-)

I'll check with mr council anyway.
  • I should point out that its a free PUBLIC motorcycle only park, if that makes any difference.

They're owned by a business and used in the process of commerce; therefore they are commercial vehicles even if they are not goods vehicles. What the DVLA classes them as is not the same as what the council might class them as. Hence I said BY-law.
