Moving Electric and Gas Meter

Hi,
I have to move electric and gas meters around 4-5 meters. My gas safe engineer recommended another engineer and he told me that he has qualifications to move. However, when I talked to National Grid, they are saying that he needs to be on Llyods Register otherwise he cannot do the job. But he is not on the Llyods register, and argues that this is not needed and he is doing this for last 20 years. Does he really need to be on llyods register ? If this is not needed, how I can check that he is authorised to move the gas meter?
thanks

I had national grid out to move my meter - it seemed like the only way at the time - I wasnt aware of anyone else who was authorised to move it.
I think the meter and pipework are the responsibility of Nat Grid and they therefore get the say on who can do it.0 -

Below link fill in form and it sends it to all UIPs

Although never found it to be much if any cheaper you can try playing one against other but as they have a monopoly of sorts they don’t need to do it any cheaper
Regards other gas engineer "qualifications" That's misleading its to do with permissions the pipes not his or yours so if there not on register of have prior agreement with distributor( very unlikely) they have no permissions local distributor owns it you need there permission to move it....0 -
It usually costs hundreds to move a meter, even a foot or two. I didn't know any suppliers allowed third parties to move their meters?
In my case, the pipework was fairly old and the supplier insisted they had to put new pipes in all the way from the road. We left it where it was.0
