Shared ownership resale - completion

I was hoping i could get some peoples experience when completing on the purchase of a resale shared ownership property.

Bit of background from my current situation... I snapped up the property pretty much as soon as the housing association had listed it on my regions help to buy website. This meant that i was given the current owners details and she showed me around the property. We've been in contact, keeping each other updated on progress, throughout the whole process. I've just dropped off the signed contract and deeds to the solicitors yesterday and so hoping the enquiries and local search come back this week so we can set a completion date and possibly exchange by the end of the week.

Everything i read online about completion assumes there was an estate agent involved and says the keys would be released through them. For the rest of the process "Estate Agent" has kind of been directly swapped out for the housing association.

How was the situation handled at completion? Do you think i'd just meet the seller at the property and take the keys from her on her way out? or will there be some kind of involvement from the HA?

  • When I sold my Shared Ownership property earlier this year it was a case of waiting for the call from the solicitor to confirm that the funds had all transferred and then handing the keys over to the new owner. My HA did not do anything other than charge an obscene amount of money for allowing me to sell my share.
  • Ah, sounds like it'll be just what i thought then

    Thanks :)
  • Hi - yes, just to say it was the same with me. I handed the keys to the new owner in person (after getting confirmation etc)
