HSBC/HFC ongoing claim

I have a claim ongoing at the moment with HSBC in relation to a loan that had ppi with HFC in 1995. I have supplied a copy of the actual insurance document that clearly states cover is for accident sickness and unemployment together with other documents including a copy of a letter I received off them when I requested a settlement figure approx 12 months after I took out the loan. I have explained that I didn't actually settle the loan at this point but they are saying that because the letter doesn't reference a split in the balance outstanding between loan and insurance figures they believe the insurance wasn't ppi and was a "specialist" insurance. I lived at home with my parents at the time so had no other liabilities apart from the loan so don't know what kind of insurance they are suggesting it was but surely this just adds more weight to the argument that I was mis sold as it obviously wasn't discussed which is what my argument is?They have asked me to provide bank statements from the time to show How much the loan repayments were at the time which I don't have but will try to obtain although I don't hold out much hope. They haven't rejected the claim yet but I sense this is next.
I cannot believe where you provide information it seems to cause more problems than when you have no documents or references......I thought this ppi claim would be the easiest of the lot!

any opinions/ advice?

Thanks in advance and apologies for long post.

Have you sent them a copy of the credit agreement which should show the difference? Try and get hold of bank statements from the beginning, middle and end of the loan period to prove you paid PPI for the whole term.

I had an unsecured loan with HFC in 1996 which was set up with a single, upfront PPI premium, so my complaint was upheld. Good luck.
  • Thanks for that..I have established the monthly amount of loan repayment and the monthly portion of the payment towards ppi and I have also been able to confirm the end date of the loan which I didn't have before. This info plus the original copy of the insurance schedule showing premiums should help them. I will take it to the FOS if they reject my claim. Will update as things progress.
    fingers crossed!!!
