My gym and cycling kit say no fabric comditooner...The bacteria like it and it blocks up any breathable fabrics.

Interesting I never knew this, my yoga mat says no fabric conditioner but I assumed this was because it would affect grip.

  • (for the exerciser, not the clothes) a little wheat grass or similar high clorophyll powder taken each day is meant to reduce odours. It's very good at stopping garlic smells hanging around the following day, but I don't know about general body odour. It could be worth a try, and now seems to be in most supermarkets, including Aldi. It comes with suggestions for adding to smoothies, but I just mix it with a little water.

I do classes ie body combat, body attack, spinning and wash my clothes after each session at 30 c. I never use fabric conditioner on my gym clothes, someone once told me you shouldn't but cannot remember who that was.
I have to admit having exercised most of my adult life I cannot recall ever thinking anyone around me has been smelly. Lots of folk are sweating and it can be dripping off some of them but never seem to detect an odour and I'm obsessed with smells.

The Dettoll laundry cleanser is regularly on offer at Costco (2.5L for £3.50ish), I use it every 2-3 times I wash gym kit to make sure it doesn't smell, but then it smells of disinfectant instead. and yes it goes in the fabric softener part so it stays on the clothes at the end ensuring they get disinfected rather than it all being rinsed out too early.

My routine, is to buy cheap gym kit (offers from Sports Direct), shower every morning, always wash gym kit after one use and shower after exercise or in evening.
Although I sweat profusely, my OH says that I never smell bad, although after 40 minutes on a cross trainer at level 12, there may be a risk of flooding in the gym.
