I've got in to the habit of chucking in in with every load of laundry including my hot washes, but for stuff that can only be washed on a low temperature it does work in a 30/40 wash. I find it works best to add a capful directly in to the drum rather than in the drawer. You can also soak stuff in a bucket of water with a capful added before washing, for cases of extreme ponginess.

Thanks - I might give this a go too. I did try Napisan but it didn't really seem to make a difference once I was wearing the clothes again.

thanks I did actually buy some today, just the tesco cheaper version, it was nearly half the price :money:

I was surprised to see it said to add to the fabric conditioner drawer! I can't see the point of that as it won't wash the clothes in there, they will just be rinsed in it.

Think I will do as you and put in the drum, might also add a cap to fabric conditioner drawer for good measure :D

I would not waste your money using it with high temp washes. it won't be needed, I am unsure yet if needed/will help at low temperatures but will give it a try.

White vinegar is excellent! If not, just use normal vinegar. It neutralises smells!

Just add a couple of tablespoons to your normal washing powder or liquid.

I've been buying the branded stuff! I didn't even think to see if there was an own-brand. D'oh!

I guess the idea is that the detergent washes the clothes, and the antibacterial stuff is added at the end so more stays on the clothes.

I really like it. I can't stand fabric conditioner (slimy and smelly!), but the Dettol stuff makes the clothes smell really nice and clean.

The label says it's corrosive, so presumably it will cause your clothes to wear out faster, but otherwise it works well, even at 30 degrees.

Look out for a product called Nikwax Base Fresh. It's a special kind of fabric softener which deodorizes and makes the clothes smell nicer for longer.

Dettol make an antibacterial laundry liquid you can add to your wash, which does an excellent job of getting the smell out of stinky gym clothes. It's a bit pricey but Tesco do their own version now which seems to work just as well.

Just searching Tesco, is it called the Tesco Laundry Cleanser?

    Yes this one

Not sure if other supermarkets do their own version, I suspect they will.
  • A lot of it is about the drying. Try to air outside or in a room with the window open.
  • If the Op is washing his kit after every workout (bravo, many don't), then the only reason there will be a smell generated when getting sweaty at the next session is because of body odour already present on his body.
Rather than waste money on extra detergents likely to shorten the life of the kit, consider taking a (short) shower BEFORE working out. I promise there will be no smell immediately generated from clean skin and kit.

My money saving tip for the day... :)

Consider using a water softener like Calgon, because soft water cleanse better!
