How can I know if a flat is rented to a person or agency?

Hello!

I'm going to court against my landlord and in one of the deductions I should know if he is renting the flat to an agency or another person.
(I was a lodger, and my landlord, living in the same flat, was not the owner of the flat)
The reason is to prove that he is lying in front of the judge regarding one of the deductions.

Is it possible to know that?
I found the land registry
https://www.gov.uk/search-property-information-land-registry
and it seems I can see the original owner of the flat there, but not his/her mobile phone to call him/her.

Any suggestion?
Thanks a lot.

So the owner rents to a tenant?

And that tenant is your landlord (you are his lodger)?

Are you asking if the owner rents via an agent to that tenant (your landlord?

Or are you asking if your landlord (the owner's tenant) rents to you via an agent?

Since I assume you'd know if your landlord used an agent, so it must be the owner's possible use of an agents you wish to know about. But I fail to see why this concerns you, or how it could affect any claim you have against your landlord.

Maybe, that is the information I would like to know

    Yes

    Yes

No, I was his lodger and my contract was with him.

    That's right.

    Thanks for reply.

Thanks for clarifying. But I still fail to understand

    a) why it matters what the relationship is between the owner and your landlord

    b) why it matters whether the owner, or anyone else, lets the property to your landlord via an agency

The fact that your landlord did not own the flat where you were the lodger is between him and the owner it doesn't have anything to do with you. Your landlord was the tenant who didn't own the flat. The original owners tenant was your landlord so talking to the original owner about your problem with your landlord doesn't help you at all.

At the moment, that is the only possibility I see, sending a letter to the flat's owner, but maybe he doesn't reply or he doesn't care. What would you write in this case to improve the chances of collaborating? Anyway, if I don't see any other option, I will try it.

Well, maybe there is also another possibility, I remember reading something about the right tenants have to know information about their landlords and head-landlords. But I don't know if that applies to lodgers or after tenancy/licensee ended. Any idea?

    Thanks a lot.

I agree with your second sentence, but not with the first one.

Very often he told me he had a landlord (when I lived with him), but in the deductions, by email (so I have a proof), he took my money saying he had to pay something I broke (which was completely false) to the agency.
If I know that he is renting the flat to a landlord rather than an agency, I can prove in front of the judge that he is a liar.
I am completely sure he is renting the flat to a landlord but I need something to prove that in court, with that, they will see he is a liar.

    Suggestions?

    Thanks. Explained right above.

The flat's owner doesn't have a contract with you. He has a contract with your landlord who didn't own the flat. You have a contract with the person who didn't own the flat not the flat's owner. You are getting your tenants and tenants muddled up. The original owner has a lease from the freeholder who owns the building. So the original owner is also a tenant. He is nothing to do with you. The only person who has anything to do with you is the person that lived in the flat with you. Also as you were a lodger any rules applying to tenancies do not apply to you because you were not a tenant.

    I know.
That is the reason I am asking if there is a way to know if my landlord (a tenant) rented the flat to a person or agency.
