Post Office duplicate balance transfer not being recalled

Options
Hi, I am new to this forum & looking for a bit of advice.

I applied for a Post Office credit card back in June to do a balance transfer of £1.1k. They processed this transfer twice, 5 days apart, as they said they could not see the initial one on their system. They now have £2.2k from me, for me to pay off.

I reported this to them on receipt of their first statement & requested a recall of one of the transfers. This was on 12th July & they said it would take 6-8 weeks.

9 weeks on, it now transpires that for some reason or other the recall request was not processed & I will have to wait a further 6-8 weeks to get my money back. I do not believe how this can be true.

Surely this is now tantamount to theft? They seem unwilling to budge on their 6-8 weeks stance. I figure I am well within my rights to get that money back within the next 24hours.

I have lodged an official complaint which could take.... wait for it... 6-8 weeks for resolution.

My question is, where can I go from here to ensure this is fast tracked? I'm assuming contacting the bank where the money was transferred 'from' will take just as long? Am I within my rights to contact the police for a crime reference number & will this help me get my money back any quicker?

Thanks for listening/ reading :)

should really have been the first thing you checked
  • Once I was aware of the double transfer from HSBC to Post Office, I requested the 2nd one back immediately from Post Office. It has now been 9 weeks and they have still not done this.
The advice I am seeking is how to make sure the Post Office now fast track this recall as I should not have to wait another 6-8 weeks for something that was their fault in the first place
  • HSBC credit card team have advised that I can only request the Post Office sort the recall as the transfer was done by them. Nightmare.

Could you not just get HSBC to refund you the second BT and then pay off the duplicated amount on the post office?

This happened to me with TSB, it was duplicated so my credit card I was BT from was in the credit by the BT, and I owed TSB twice the amount. I contacted TSB to refund the BT fee and then got Halifax to return the money to me and I paid back the duplicated BT.

If they (HSBC) wont sent you the money they could just sent it back to where it came from (Post office)

I would also be asking the PO for a refund of the duplicated fee. its not theft if it wasnt your money to start with.

One account is in credit and one is double in debt, one cancels out the other, then you owe the remainder BT as requested.
