Parking Charge Notice no record on system

I received a pcn from Britannia Parking on thursday 8th sept 2016 after parking at a local Waitrose store for 2 hours 31 minutes.
I was told by the parking attendant that they give a 30 minute grace, so effecitively I was only 1 minute over the time. My intention is to appeal as all the signs around my car were all in Welsh, no English at all to be seen (and I do not speak Welsh), I took photos of these signs. Also there was an issue about timing of the ticket being issued.
However, my issue is that I have followed the instructions to make an appeal and there is no record of my pcn number on their system. I am therefore a bit confused. Do I still contact them? Basically this will alert them to a mistake they have possibly made and If I am unsuccessful in the appeal I could be out of pocket. But if I leave it, Im not sure what would happen.
Any advice would be much appreciated :)

With Waitrose, wait and see if you get a letter. In many Waitys stores they are believed to have a '3 strikes' warning policy whereby a first 'offence'(!) never gets followed up. They might never get your DVLA data. If they do, it will be in late October.

I've collected Britannia fake PCNs myself and never heard a dicky bird. Having said that, I am aware of a person who has just got a letter in August, a month after the PCN, and is now appealing it as the registered keeper as per the NEWBIES thread.

Which is what you need to do. Sit tight, then if you get a letter, appeal AS KEEPER, using the blue writing template (that's why the NEWBIES thread is in capitals and stuck at the top of the forum asking newbies to 'PLEASE READ THESE FAQS FIRST'. It has the appeal to send (BUT NOT NOW - UNLESS YOU ARE NOT THE KEEPER!).

Whilst waiting, you could call into the Waitys with your receipt and complain and ask the Store Manger to cancel it. Always worth a retailer complaint re their agent's little money-making ruse in the car park.

  • Thank you for this, i really appreciate it. I did call into Waitrose the day I received the pcn and spoke to the Manager who was not particularly helpful and tbh quite rude. She even told me that noone has ever had an issue in their car park before! I think an email to them is in order.

Email to Head Office is certainly in order. Complain about:

    (1) the harassment of getting a scary 'fine' just for daring to do a full shop (if you did) and how this is unacceptable and unwarranted.

    (2) any reason why you were slower than usual, illness or medical issue or having an elderly passenger etc.? If so, tell Head Office of Waitys they are potentially breaching the Equality Act by applying an arbitrary inflexible time limit.

    (3) add in the complaint about the Store Manager. Waitys staff CANNOT be rude and unhelpful, that's not their remit! They are normally lovely!
