As you spoke today and she's only just raised the enquiries, I'd leave it a week (say, this Friday) then ask her how things are going, as the responses aren't in her control (obviously!). When you speak to her ask her how likely a completion date of 06 October is, as she'll have a better idea of how quickly the seller / freeholder is responding to things. This is always the worst stage because it's up to everyone else to do their part, and there's very little you or your solicitor can do other than pester the other side! But they've no reason to delay, unless there's an issue coming out.

Just noted that it said she'll prepare her report then get you to come in and sign. (Signing doesn't mean exchanging, by the way - but obviously you can't exchange until you've signed.) Personally, I wouldn't be signing anything until I'd read all the documents and had all my questions answered. :)

As you're not renting and have the luxury of time, it's far better that you take the time to get all the answers you need and understand everything and then complete a week or two later than you originally hoped. Especially as FTBs. :)

Just my approach, though - others would just completely rely on the solicitor to have done everything and sign regardless!

' <-- See that? It's called an apostrophe. It does not mean "hey, look out, here comes an S".

You are planning to spend £X00,000.

You really need to understand what the implications are, how the process works, what important things need to be done, by you, by people on your behalf, and by other people.

  • Thanks All.
I have spoken to my solicitor today and put forward our proposed completion date of 6th or 7th October which she has put down and will be speaking to the sellers solicitor.
She is going to contact me at the end of this month to let us know whether we will be able to complete on that day.

Thanks for your helpful posts on this thread! I feel that things are stalling at the moment, so this helps me understand the process.

All the best with the purchase OP - :)
