What home insurance would I need for potential buy to let?

I understand that as a landlord you need to take our insurance for your rented property, which is what I will be doing, however, as this is my first time renting my property, I have a few questions regarding the insurance.
I probably need to take out a "Buy-to-let" building insurance, I assume effectively from the day I rented out.
But what if there is a time gap between my current residential building insurance and the BTL insurance?
For example, my residential insurance expires on 1st Oct, and I plan to move out / start renting on 1 Nov, so what type of insurance I need after 1st Oct?
A residential one? but would I need to cancel it after 30 days?
A BTL insurance? but does it cover if I am still living in it?
Hope I make sense and thank you for advance!

You need Landlord's Insurance.
Ask your likely provider for its stance on "overlaps".I am a mortgage broker. You should note that this site doesn't check my status as a Mortgage Adviser, so you need to take my word for it. As far as I'm aware most (some?) LL policies cover a transitional time between tenants. As long as you find one that covers the 31 days; you'll be fine. Any Broker (except Swinton) who sells Commercial insurance should help.0

Others probably know more than me but I'm not sure whether any LL insurance would cover you living there, even temporarily.0
