Model driver ...printing there own money AGAIN

Hi all ,
So today i contacted Sheilas wheels model driver call centre to cancel my insurance. Due to having a company car with insurance and lots of other freebies i simply didn't need the cover elsewhere anymore.
Upon finally getting through to a member of there call centre staff , the lady began to cancel my cover as of today. Perfect...then came the bombshell £120 of my hard earned dollar for the luxury of cancelling. SO i questioned....
heres how it was laid out.
£85 FOR model driver administration charge of cancelling (the broker)
£35 FOR the underwriter.
Minus any credit for remaining days i had not used on the insurance.
So potentially i will have to pay around £87 upon receipt of the cancellation letter.
I asked how this could be justified bearing in mind i had been a customer for around a 2 years and this it seems very unlikely the administration for cancelling would cost to this amount. As suspected i received no actual answer.
After explaining i was disappointed with this due to the investment of around £2000 over 2 year for insurance. I advised i would await there letter , and write them a long, dubious , but to the point complaint and request this be either wiped or made realistic.
What do you guys think? is this me just being stingy or would you agree that this is money being made out of jarred oxygen?

Have you checked your documentation to make sure that the £85 is clearly stated?

If you insure your car through a broker then they will always be paid a fee, they arnt going to work for free!. Usually the fee is included in the total price of the insurance and you pay it every time you use a broker. But when you cancel early they still need to be paid their fee. If they gave you a pro rata refund with no fees this would mean the broker looses out because you have cancelled early, which obviously isn't fair because they have to actually do more work when you cancel by dealing with your phone call, contacting the underwriter and sending you a cancellation letter.
So thay is how it is justifiable and I think it is fair to charge you in these circumstances. But personally I wouldn't try to avoid taking out insurance with a company that has such high fees that are due upon cancellation. But you have already agreed to them so you can't really argue about it now.0 -
I don't think it's the charge he's trying to justify, just the amount.
£85 does seem unusually high, however if it's clearly stated in their terms of business, which you accept when taking out the policy, I'm afraid that apart from asking nicely for it to be reduced (which is unlikely going to happen) then you don't really have grounds for a complaint.0
