Travel republic

Just a warning when booking a holiday with Travel Republic.I recently booked flights and accommodation to Orlando and paid the full amount instantly with a credit card. T.R. sent my email confirmation for the accommodation within 30 mins but no confirmation for the flights. No problem as on their website it says confirmation can take up to 12 hrs and contact them if you haven't heard by then. Unfortunately the 12 hr deadline was in the early hrs when their customer service lines are closed so i emailed them and 26hrs after i made the booking they called me to tell me they couldn't honour the flight booking as it was the last 3 seats and someone else beat me to it before their system could update. Ok i said just refund me my money and i will go elsewhere...and this is the warning....WHEN YOU BOOK WITH T.R. YOU ENTER INTO 2 SEPARATE CONTRACTS AND THEY TRY TO FORCE YOU TO HONOUR THE ACCOMMODATION EVEN IF THERE ARE NO FLIGHTS AVAILABLE !! Now it is in their small print from a legal point of view but who reads the small print when you are booking the family holiday of a lifetime? After hours of arguments with line managers i finally got my full refund but i want to warn other holidaymakers about their underhand policies.

This is the case for many 3rd party sites cobbling together holidays. You'd think that when booking a "family holiday of a lifetime" you could set aside 20 minutes of reading time to find out what product you are actually purchasing.

I have used TR many times for hotels without any problems whatsoever, however, for flights, I always book direct with the airlines - even if that means paying a bit more (and I won't embark on another hideous protracted debate to elaborate on my preference for doing this. :) )

You cannot put a price on peace of mind.

+3 really, although I would say that it would only really take you 5 mins to read this info.

To play devils advocate I recently booked my hotel only through Travel Republic, only to find out a week before going that they had in turned booked it with Low Cost Holidays. I called them and they said they would look into it. In the meantime I called the hotel directly and the hotel said my booking with LCH had been cancelled and I could have the room but it would cost me an extra £500 than what I had originally paid. Travel Republic got onto them and managed to get me my original room, for the same price and paid for it directly themselves so that I could go on holiday and still enjoy myself. Yes it was there responsibility to sort it out, which they did but it was all done and dusted within a day or so and they were really quick so I was very happy with their service in the end.

-1, ended up with a big argument and chargeback on a hotel only booking a few years ago.

    Wouldn't touch them for flights.
