Guttering pipe sizes

I need to fit a strong half round clip to a gutter, but I'm baffled about the size. The pipe it fits around seems to be around 65mm outside diameter rather than 60mm. Is guttering sized by internal diameter?

I can only find clips sized at 60mm diameter in steel, would this fit?

Sorry I can't post the link, but google this in Amazon

The diameter of a circle is a straight line. If the circle were a cake, it would be the length of the cut required to completely split it into two equal halves.

You appear to be measuring half of the circumference if you're talking about insides and outsides.

    Look at the diagram.

half the circumference is longer than the diameter.

If you have actually measured the circumference, then half the circumference at 65 means the full circumference is 130. Divided by pi makes the diameter more like 41mm...

But you have the pipe, so you can measure across the top, not round the circle.

You say you want to fit a clip to gutter then go on about pipe sizes. Plastic rainwater downpipe, if that's what you are talking about, is 68mm so a 60mm clip won't fit.

Apologies for the crude image. Best I could offer at this time in the morning. Not that it's any help in the solution, but my interpretation of the OP's comment

    so they're suggesting a 65mm diameter pipe with a 2.5mm thick wall
  • Yes it must be the 68mm diameter one since having checked that's the standard. I'm after a steel metal clip rather than PVC.
  • I doubt anyone makes a steel clip for plastic downpipes.
