Stolen recovered no damage
Hi,
We are currently trying to sell out car. Two years ago (about a week after we bought it) it was stolen. We were burgled and they took the keys and the car. The police recovered the car within 24 hours and there was no damage to it. The police thoroughly checked it and we had it checked over as we were concerned that it may have been thrashed around. The police at the time said it had been stolen by a car theft ring to sell on. We had called our insurance company at the time of theft but didn't make a claim because the car was returned undamaged.
Now we are trying to sell it and someone was interested but had a HPI check and it flagged up as stolen. Can we get this marker removed or does this mean the car is classed as a CAT D and we won't be able to sell it for as much as we had hoped?

Are you saying your car is still shown as outstanding stolen?
Ring the police who dealt with the original offence and ask them.0 -
No it's not showing that it's still stolen just that an insurance claim was made because it was stolen, even though we didn't end up actually claiming0

It was stolen and recovered which is what the HPI will show, seems correct to me. It was stolen and recovered.
Whether it was damaged or not during that incident is not recorded though.
Did you have new locks fitted?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
That's unfortunate because as a buyer you would be concerned in the same way you were concerned when the car was returned to you.
Do you have any of the original paperwork from when you had the car checked out?Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0 -
if the HPI marker says the car was stolen recovered then that is correct, I think i am right in saying that it will only carry a Cat D if the car was subject to an insurance claim
if the car was stolen the insurance pays out and then car is recovered with no damage the it will carry a Cat D marker0 -
So HPI shows that your car has been previously stolen because... it was previously stolen.
It doesn't show it as being written off, because... it wasn't written off.
And...?0
