If this link works, this is Rose Cottage.

If this link works, this is my house, before being re-decorated throughout,
Well, it would seem that link doesn't work. CH2 2BT 75 Dicksons Drive
Question, would you pay an extra c.£100k to move 100 yards up the road to Rose Cottage?
Heart says yes, brain says ~£15k stamp duty and smaller garden.
Discuss.

Don't like the extension. Looks like a converted garage.0

Yes, I just might

Its lovely (IMO) plus detached, not much work to do, spacious for a cottage, ensuites (often unusual in cottages0
Is this a 'dream home'?
If it is and you can afford it, there is a price worth paying for that compared to a 'well its ok for now' house
PS We moved less than 100yds once . £10k at the time to rectify a mistake - well worth it.0 -

The price differential is £200k - but if I could afford it I would consider it.
But I would be more inclined to stay put, refurbish the current one to a similar (if not better e.g the extension) standard if I have a better aspect and larger garden as those things cannot be changed.
Doubt it cost them > c £115k to do it anyway, but theproperty is very nicely presented.0 -
Right, due to a long convoluted story involving fires and developers, my house has been refurbished to the the same standard as Rose Cottage since those photos were taken.
I bought it refurbished.
That was over three years ago. I wouldn't want to pay the full Asking price on Rose Cottage and according to my mortgage lender, the value of my house has increased somewhat. So the price differential should be nearer £100k.
Rose cottage would be a forever home, but the current house is supposed to be a forever home.0 -
Are you into gardens?
That rose cottage one looks like it would need some attention to keep in order.0 -
Rose Cottage is gorgeous
your current house might have been renovated to the same standard, but does it have the character and the charm?
100k is a big difference though - do you really love Rose Cottage enough to pay that much?0 -
I'd be careful, the people at either side of you in the chain would probably have the same opinion of their deals in that the buyer of yours would like to pay less than you want to sell it for, and the seller of Rose wants more than you thinkit's worth. It could b a much bigger theoretical price gap than 100k0

Fair point, your house is never worth what you think/hope it is worth.0

I don't understand then, why are you thinking of moving? I'm sure there is a reason, but for 100k I doesn't seem obvious?
Not being critical, but your forever home seems quite temporary and not very cost efficient.
Still, it is lovely and we cannot see how yours compares so perhaps you should go with your heart. At least then, you will always love it.0
