in Credit cards
I'm shortly moving from paying my train ticket from monthly to annually. I don't get an interest free loan from my employer so need to maximise rewards or interest free payments.
The ticket will cost over £5,000 so have been looking at the Amex cards which offer points, Avios, rewards etc on large spends in first three months.. I'd rather get cash unless I know that the reward can be used (not sure how easy it is to use Avios etc) and Amex don't seem to offer 0% interest rates.
My current plan is to get both the Amex Nectar card and the Amex Platinum Cashback card via TCB or Quidco for the intro offers then get rid of the Nectar before year 2 fee. I know that Amex pay the cashback at the anniversary so I assume I would need to pay the year 2 fee to get my cashback.
Am I missing something? Maybe the Preferred Rewards Card or BA Amex if they can be used easily maybe?
I currently have the following
TSB 1% on £500 per month
Nationwide Classic 0.5%
Santander 123 CC (this will be transferred elsewhere and closed)
Halifax Clarity

i would use an Amex Cashback creditcard and be straight into the 1% threshold by buying the ticket.0

I have found Amex are usually tight with there opening limits (in my partners case) but up limits quickly after a few months. So may the case it won't go in one transaction.0
