Larumbelle What a joyful and inspiring post . Well done on beating the diy demons , as long as you have used the right fittings for the wall depending on solid or plasterboard all should be well . I think it's so good of the community group to not only pass on useful items but make you attempt the work yourself , you must have had a big confidence boost .
Your words regarding supporting family are so true . I used to be so independent often to my own detriment but have learned to give in when necessary . It's hard when you were the doer but I'd rather take a little help than cause worry .
NMAT No such thing as a useful tip . Nice to see you .:)
Now a challenge to all . Look at my user name , childhood nickname that stuck . Inspired over the years I try to find 3 good things in each day , bad days may only bring one but lets see if you can find the positive in each day even if like Pollyanna you have to take another view on a negative .
I also plan to be like Bonnie at least once a day - thanks SL .

What a helpful thread - I feel as tho I am not so alone now. I have fibro arthritis iBS and gerd also angioedema. For the last I take 3 different pills which have made me tired and very overweight. I miss being able to knit as always had knitting on the go. I tried last year to knit a school jumper for my granddaughter but it was too small by the time I finished it ( her little sister will get in when she goes to school)
I heat water for tea in a cup in the microwave and have a coffee machine that takes pods so one cup at a time and easy to use. I have a shark lightweight vacuum which is so easy to use. I struggle with opening tins so don't use many and as for ringpulls I just don't have the strength for them.So any advice would be good as I like diet cola and can't manage the big bottles - they would have fizzed all over my kitchen floor:rotfl:
I shop on line and the lady from asda puts my freezer stuff into the freezer and leaves the fridge stuff at the front of the fridge.
I shop for clothes on line unless I am near a Bonmarche as the assistants there are great and really helpful and their fitting rooms are big. Was in one of their shops last week and the girl spent ages getting different sizes for me.
Hi grunnie,
I've had to give up knitting...not that I was any good at it in the first place!
Please don't fall for those cheap grips for jars and tins, they're rubbish!
I have vertigo problems and a bit more...it's a struggle most of the time.
Seeing humour in your ailments seems to help a bit, even though it isn't funny!

NMAT I should have said useless ! At least you can locate your lists I write them and they disappear into a random black hole .
Welcome Grinnie I posted earlier in the thread about electric tin openers . Regarding opening jar and bottle tops there are all sorts of small items on sale for the purpose . I used to wear my rubber gloves for the grip but now have a circular silicone grippy thing which works quite well . No doubt others on here will have their own versions . One thing I do with jars is release the vacuum before opening by sticking a pointed small knife or skewer into the lid but only on a very good day when concentration is present

Hi Pollyanna,
I only seem to find lists that I've written months ago, not recent ones!
I've seen a hack where people cut up a tennis ball and use it to squash on to jar lids to open them. I might try it sometime. I'll probably forget to do it.
It took days to open a jar of beetroot a couple of weeks ago, I was close to tears! I'm really not joking!0 -
We've had problems opening jars too, and sometimes waited for a neighbour to do it. I have one of those mat things to help, but I believe you can make one for yourself by cutting up an old hot water bottle, just make it bigger than the largest jar you might buy ( for me it would be jar of gerkins).
Get so frustrated opening some plastic packs, most are so unnecessary, now I just keep the scissors handy.0 -
Ugh - I don't know what it is, but since having the sprogletts I seem to come down with mild viruses really quickly and with no warning.
Woke up this morning with a killer throat, aching everything, and faulty breathing apparatus.
Nothing life threatening, but I had a long list of things I needed to do today and the only thing I've actually managed was to pick up a new mop.
Not use it, or unpack it mind you, just buy the darn thing and dump it in the hall.
best laid plans and all that.Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you. Anne Lamott
It's amazing how those with a can-do attitude and willingness to 'pitch in and work' get all the luck, isn't it?
Please consider buying some pet food and giving it to your local food bank collection or animal charity. Animals aren't to blame for the cost of living crisis.0 -

I know that feeling....apart from having kids!
I bought some wallpaper...4 months ago. Still in the box...still in the hall. If my walls weren't so rubbish I'd have saved money in the first place and not bought the ruddy things. The walls are still rubbish, I probably won't use the wallpaper. I tried.0 -
I have something like this to open jars which works pretty well
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B00189ZPG6/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1474221329&sr=8-2&pi=SY200_QL40&keywords=jar+openers&dpPl=1&dpID=31rQzO9VG%2BL&ref=plSrch
For bottles of coke etc, I use a pair of pliers to grip the lid and twist. I do have enough strength in the other hand to grip the bottle though and hold it steady.0 -
Hope no one minds me joining in? I have had my password re set and come out of lurkdom because this thread is so helpful. I consider myself lucky to be fit and healthy but have struggled for the last 2+ years with back pain which limits my sitting, bending, lifting and carrying to name a few things. I have had to change my ways and like many on here I can't always remember what I have changed because they have become the new norm. I can however remember my latest 'tweak'. I started to use the food processor that I had had for years when I realised that standing and chopping veg was making the pain worse. However I struggled to get the food processor close enough to me to use comfortably. Light bulb moment was when I realised if I put it on a folded cloth I could use the cloth to pull it to the front of the bench to use and then back out of the way. It involved lifting it once to get it on the cloth and now it is a pleasure to slid it back and forth. So far I have managed not to spill anything on the cloth but it has been such a help to me I will feel ok asking OH to lift it when cloth needs changing. He is as good as gold re my back but I prefer to manage when I can.0

I have a jarkey which I use regularly to release vaccuum in a tight shut jar. Works really well too
http://www.lakeland.co.uk/7706/Jarkey-Screw-Top-Jar-Opener
Many tops are metal and will expand if placed upside down in some hot water. I can even open very tight kilner rings this way, You just need a thin cloth to go over the top for added grip.0
