Stopover in Dubai - any ideas?

On our way to Australia this December we have a 6 hr stopover in Dubai - arriving at 3am
Does anyone have any ideas of how to spend this time productively?
Is it possible to have a shower somewhere?
Having never done this type of flight will we have to go through baggage reclaim and then check in again ( the two flights will be with different carriers) or do we stay airside and our luggage is transferred (hopefully) automatically?

Are you booked on one ticket, and who are you flying with?
There are a few hotels very close to the airport that offer 'day' rates for a shower and a nap in a real bed, if you're flying with Emirates you can book through them, otherwise you can book straight through the hotel.
The Dubai International hotel is inside the airport and is especially for international transit passengers or there are hotels outside the airport that are very close, Premier Inn, HI Express, Le Meridien. You might have to phone them for day rates though.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -

Thanks for that ....I did wonder if there were any hotels that offered by the hour rates but thought that sounded so wrong lol!
We are flying to Dubai by Emigrates though flying onwards to Australia with Quantas.not sure if it's on one ticket ....hubby is dealing with that side of things - perhaps just as well since I mucked the dates of some tours on our last visit away!0 -
Emirates and Qantas codeshare and interline on routes through Dubai, ask hubby if he's booked a through ticket.
Try and stay awake until you get on the Qantas plane.
Btw the Qantas flight is long, if there are two of you travelling, the upper deck of the aircraft has 2-X-2 seating which is good, perhaps see if you can reserve those 2 seats together.

If it's just a shower you're after then there are public showers in the transit area. A bit more upmarket is the G Force Health Club in the airport transit hotel.0

I've never tried it but there's the snooze cube http://www.dubaiairportguide.com/2011/10/19/dubai-airport-snooze-cube-sleep-box/
If you're flying Emirates & spending more than 4 hours at the airport you can get a voucher for a meal http://www.sleepinginairports.net/mideast/dubai.htm
They have loads of canvas type beds too that you can lie on for free, not the comfiest but better than a chair.0 -
We went to visit the Burg Khalifa currency the tallest building in the world but make sure you book in advance. The metro goes direct from the airport to the Dubai Mall and then you walk through0
