Contents insurance - occupation times?

Hey there,

I'm sorting out contents insurance for our rented property and have come across the question "When is the house generally occupied?"

I work full time (with night shifts thrown in from time to time) but my wife works part time (2 long days/nights a week). A large proportion of the days she works when I'm off, so generally, apart from 1 or occasionally 2 days a week, there's an adult in the house.

Would this qualify for insurance purposes as "occupied during the day and night"?

Will there be days and/or nights when both of you are away from the home?

I think you need to speak to them and explain your working hours fully.

  • As I say, it is only occasional that we are both out of the house, but this can apply to days or nights.
