Extra Ad-Hoc Childcare and Tax Credits?

Our lad has started going to a childminder's one day a fortnight, at £44 a day, so we've declared an average weekly childcare amount of £22.
However, does anyone know what happens if we need an extra ad-hoc day's childcare at short notice? Can we declare it either on the day, or at the end of a year with the tax credits renewal, and get 70% of the £44 daily rate for those days?
Or are they "outside" the claim, and we'll just have to stump up the full rate ourselves?

your average costs must increase by £10 per week before any adjustment will be made.
For a short time increase in payment the increase must be £10 per week for 4 weeks in a row.
Ad hoc odd days won't count.
