Correcting a report?

Options
Hey,

Just looking for a bit of advice before I chase up Paypal.

I took out a finance agreement with Apple at the start of the year, with finance provided by Paypal Credit. I immediately organised a direct debit to pay the 12 months of instalments as agreed and I received confirmation of this from Paypal.

Due to a technical error on their side, despite the direct debit being set up correctly, a payment was not taken in the first month. I was told at that time they would ensure a correction was put in place so it would not appear on a credit file as a missed payment.

However, I have recently gained access to my credit report and see this still shows as a missed payment on my record.

Does anybody have some advice on how to get this corrected? Should I just be writing to Paypal and ask for the report to be amended?

  • Yes. If that fails, raise a dispute with the CRA(s).

Hi Heilancoo and welcome to MSE,

You should write a complaint letter to PayPal credit and include any proof that you have that they agreed to correct your credit file and that it was not your error. Ask them to remove the missed payment mark and if they refuse you can escalate the matter to the Information Commissioners Office.

If the mark remains then you can add a Notice of Correction to give it more context.
