Alternatives to Virgin

Received a letter from Virgin yeserday advising us that their prices were going up by £3.49 per month from November.

We currently pay £52 a month for phone, broadband and their Medium to package with TiVo. I feel paying over £50 per month is too much and just wondered what cheaper alternatives are out there?

I love being able to record shows on TiVo but have no idea if I can do this with a different box or provider. Can anyone offer any advice please?

Yes, look for a freeview PVR if you have an ariel.
  • Or you could get a Freesat PVR. I prefer Freesat over Freeveiw because the picture quality is normally better and I don't need a aerial fitter clambering over my roof tiles. My dish is on the side of my house which is much more convenient for me.

of course that'll only work if they already have a satellite in place, which they may not have

We don't have a satellite...I think we have an aerial though.

If you state what features of TIVO you like then people here may be able to help you find a similar box/service for a cheaper price.

If it's just recording from free channels then a Freeview+ or Youview box may suffice.

Here are the freeview channel listings:here
Just put in your address details to see the channels available.
  • Verizon seems to be good. Isn't it?

    What channels do you watch?
Paid off the last of my unsecured debts in 2016. Then saved up and bought a property. Current aim is to pay off my mortgage as early as possible. Currently over paying every month. Mortgage due to be paid off in 2036 hoping to get it paid off much earlier. Set up my own bespoke spreadsheet to manage my money.

Freeview will be great for you if you have a working aerial and you're happy with the channels it has, but you should, of course, talk to Virgin and maybe threaten to leave, and you might end up saving more than the £3.50 they've just put the price up by.
