Thanks :D

Actually your browser is protecting you, it's not an error. It could be that you're using a fake address for the bank, or a configuration temporary problem. Don't try to work around it, pay heed.

My version of Chrome, updated today, has started to do this with nearly all websites. Neither Edge nor IE do. I suspect a glitch in Chrome.

Be very wary if you are connected on a public wifi when out somewhere, an error like this could mean your connection is hijacked. Other web browser brands would give a similar warning, or show a broken padlock. Don't click OK to accept any new certificates.

Its not a red padlock, for me anyway but on the address bar to the left of the web address is an information icon telling me my connection is not private. It does not appear on any other browser nor does it appear if an https address. A quick web search reveals it has been introduced into chrome for (I think) v53. Apparently it is a try boy Google to show how many web addresses might be insecure. They have done something similar with emails to gmail from isps who don't meet their security standards. BT is one such email provider.

What URL are you trying to access?
  • I got the same error whilst connecting to my NAS box from a friends PC.

Said my connection was unknown and untrusted. Maybe it knows more than me? :)

If you click on the https or an icon to the left of it it should give you more information. There's vulnerabilities in some older encryption protocols that some browsers choose to ignore, Google are having Chrome warn their users...

Getting the same error on my own PC now which is connected directly to the NAS box.

I use Chrome to access the NAS controls and it gives the untrusted error. Seems like they went OTT and not thought about NAS users.

Chrome -should- be giving the untrusted error when connecting to your NAS since it has no way of verifying the identity of the NAS. Any other browser should do the same.
