Flood Area House Insurance Postcode Problems

My renewal is due in approx 1 month so I thought I'd start getting quotes and seeing what the price difference to last year is.
The 1st 2 insurance company's I have called won't do Buildings Insurance due to Floods in my area (even though my house was unaffected!).

What are my options and have many people found any company that would insure (whereas others won't)?

1 of the Sales guy said you may find you're only able to get insurance from your renewal company (so who I'm currently with), not sure they would be obliged to though??

    Try Norwich Union Direct.
Their flood databases are far more accurate than anyone elses.

Most of the insurers flood mapping systems will work to full postcode level that will break it down to around 15 properties. Problems occur when those 15 are on a slope and the one at the bottom is prone to flooding. The others are then tarred with the same brush.

NU overflew the country with a specially equipped aeroplane a few years back and did terrain elevation modelling plus river flow modelling to a very high standard. They claim to be able to rate the flood risk down to the individual property in the postcode.

PS: I do not work for NU. Just attended a lecture on their flood mapping system a few years ago.

Yes Norwich Union will insure me, also my current Mortgage lender is actually Prudential and ARE obliged to re-insure (spoke to a Sales team person), she did say they wouldn't if I wasn't an existing customer though!

The price hasn't gone up too much either :)

No company is obliged to cover a risk if they didnt want too.
