Polite bank staff?
Comments

My experiences of counter service.
TSB - oh so polite and helpful. Obviously allowed the time to talk to customers.
Lloyds are more concerned with getting customers in the counter line to use the deposit ATM than serving them at the counter.
Natwest - mostly indifferent but they have their helpful moments occasionally.0 -

Be careful what you wish for.
If that was only true. I prefer online banking despite some fraudster a few years ago deposited £53,000 into my account that had been taken from other accounts of Cahoot.0 -
I would think that the banks with these automated machines will be targetted to get a high % of customers to use them.
At the end of the day the machine will work out cheaper than a human and does not need to stop for lunch and holidays!0 -
Halifax do tend to direct you to self-service machines more than the other banks, but I don't think it's necessarily rude or unwelcoming. All depends on the circumstances and the tone used.
The person walking around informing people in the queue that the machines are available does not know your preference, but I do find it going a bit far when the person behind the counter tells you that you should use the machine (you've already been seen by the other person and if you were comfortable to use the machine, you would have done.)
I prefer the Halifax machines to pay in cheques (you get a photocopy of the cheque on the receipt) but I stick to the counter when paying in say over £50 in cash.0 -
I'm with Kim. Happy to pay in cheques by machine but not cash.0

It's your choice if you use automated systems/online/human being.
Just don't whinge and moan if you have to wait 10-15 mins to get served and don't have a go at those who are only trying to help.
Sometimes put yourself in their position and ask yourself would you like to be spoken back to in that manner.0 -

And don't whinge and moan when the branch has been closed because everybody is using the machines, as directed, instead of the counter staff, making them superfluous to requirements.:)0 -

Just remind us what uber important transaction you're impatiently waiting for whilst being annoyed by these people who prefer to use (and keep cashiers employed) the bank staff.
Is it something important to do with your large Victorian house?
