Using a return half of a ticket as a one-way ticket?

Hi. I have a return ticket with Ryanair flying out from Malmo to Stansted 18/9 and returning to Malmo on the 25/9. However I won't be using the first outbound half of the flight on the 18th as I had to come to the UK earlier. I still intend to use the second half of the ticket on the 25th as a one-way ticket. Would this be a problem when checking in at Stansted to return to Malmo? I couldn't find anything about this in their t's & c's. When you go to "My Bookings" on Ryanairs website you can only change your flight(s), not cancel them. I guess a "no show" is easier and cheaper than spending money on a premium phone number trying to cancel a flight?

  • When I had a similar situation the airline told me that a 'no show' is automatically cancelled - I assumed to maybe free up seats for reps etc coming home last minute.. ?

Not the case with Ryanair stacey.

On Ryanair each leg is booked as a single leg, so you are fine if you only use the return part of your booking (have done it several times).
    Gone ... or have I?
  • You're fine, I asked Ryanair this very question last month, when I would not be using the outbound part of my ticket, but needed to use the return.

They told me there would be no problem, (and there wasn't) as each leg is treated seperately.

If you are concerned, and still want to speak to them but don't want to pay premium rates, try +353 12497700, using 18185 or similar

ALL Lo-cost airlines operate on a point to point basis meaning they do not sell return tickets. Therefore, what you have purchased is in effect two single tickets so missing one leg of a journey has no effect on the other.

This is NOT the case with scheduled/charter tickets and you should NEVER miss the first leg of the journey as the opeartor has the right to cancel ALL further legs within that trip.
