Hi guys,
Has anyone been victim of these? Can someone actually fake a tracking number?

Who is going to be a 'victim'?
If you are a seller, a false tracking number MAY deter a serial INR claimant.
If you are a buyer, how does a fake tracking number affect you if you have received your package.
If you are a buyer returning something, a fake tracking number you put on a package will never show as delivered, so you will not get a refund.0 -
Well I am the victim. I have been the victim (and not just me) of a ring of eBay sellers who's accounts can all be linked together with feedback, selling the same and similar items. I did not receive the item. I was in all day on the day it supposedly was delivered, it did not go to any neighbours or anything like that. Before anybody suggests opening a claim with Royal Mail - I cant do that until the seller of the item gives me proof postage and as you can probably guess the seller (with a feedback rating of 1 left by his friend no doubt) Is not playing ball.0

You didnt receive the item so open a case. Sorted.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0

All you need to do is open an INR case on ebay or paypal. A fake tracking number is not going to show as delivered on the Royal Mail website. Instant win and refund for you.0 -
Thanks for the suggestions. I have opened a case and it has gone in favour of the seller because he provided a tracking number. The reason I posted on here and my original question is can tracking numbers be faked ?0

I think you are confused by what 'fake' means in this case.
You have been given a tracking number. But not for a delivery to your address. The number is genuine, but for a different address. A 'fake' number would not register with online tracking.
You will need to probably phone up and speak to someone at Ebay or Paypal.
I would drop all mention of 'fake' and make them understand the tracking details do not relate to your delivery address.0 -
AS said, you need to provide information if you want help.
What does the tracking show?0 -
The tracking shows it being as signed for and delivered but not by me. The name on the signature is not mine. eBbay have suggested it could have been the post man/RMs error but like I have mentioned the same item has been sold 4 times by very similar accounts that are all linked by their feedback which I find very suspect. Anyway lets suppose it is royal mails fault, RM are insisting that before I can put a claim in I need proof of postage and like I said the seller (who's account was registered 4 days before i bought from him with a feedback rating of 1 ) has not responded to any of my emails.0

Was it delivered from your local office?0 -
Yes it was, I called royal mail and they would not confirm the address. eBay claim that they spoke to royal mail and they did indeed confirm that it was delivered to my address ! Bit like i said the signature was not mine !0
