Thailand but where to go?

I've been to Thailand twice - though it was in the eighties! The first was Bangkok & the River Kwai, and the second was Pattaya - I was supposed to be met at the airport but they came at the wrong time - took a taxi to the bus station, then bus to Pattaya.
So, I too would advice at least a two-centre stay.
Looking back I have a great affection for the place, the people, their customs, the sights, and despite not having been part of the Empire English is their second language. Moreover, it's strange on commercial buildings, under the Thai script seeing
co. Ltd.
Check out as many holiday brochures as you can, including such as Travelbag, look also on TripAdvisor - they'll cover all the resorts and places to visit - good and bad!I used to work for Tesco - now retired - speciality Clubcard0 -
This 'sticky' thread from the top of the TA Thailand forum helps explain why it's helpful to provide as much info as possible in order to get a full answer to a question...

Not long back from first time visit to Thailand.
Obviously flew to Bangkok Suva, then onward flight to Khon Kaen in North East for 4 nights - not a tourist place, but my son lives and works there. Having him and his GF with us made it a lot easier to settle into the way of life, second day there they had hired a plush mini bus and driver and we saw the "real" Thailand...
From there, flew back to Bangkok, then onward to Koh Samui - spent 8 nights at Centara Villas in the south of the island - we loved it there, but wouldnt suit everyone as its quite isolated, with only 3 local restaurants and one local bar.
Visited Chaweng, a very full on place, and Lamai looked similar, so for us, Centara was a good choice.
Then flew back to Bangkok and stayed 2 nights at the Centrepoint Silom, which was recommended by a helpful person on here.
Brilliantly situated for local pier to access River boats ( use the boats with orange flags ) and the BTS ( Skytrain ).
Had a fantastic holiday, weather was excellent once we had acclimatised to the heat. There were a few storms and heavy rain, but nearly always during evening/night - exception to this was during a boat trip to Koh Tao, Koh Mudsum and 4/5 islands - torrential rain and big swell meant that trip had to be cut short, but at least we had done some amazing snorkelling before the weather deteriorated..0 -
This year I went to Koh Samui - first time in thailand and was lovely. We went to chaweng regent beach resort and it is in a good location on the beach. if you walk up the beach you have a bar & if you go out the front then shopping and more bars etc & clubs. you can both relax and also be in the mix. My impressions, perfect for 2 weeks holiday and speedboat over to Koh Pangnan & Koh Tao0
