Balance Transfer Rejected RBS

After checking my eligibilty through the MSE Credit Checker, getting a 966 credit score and a 90% chance of acceptance from RBS, I have been turned down for a 0% balance transfer. My total debit is below £1,500.

What I found interesting, is that the questions asked in the MSE CC Checker differed from those asked by the CC providers. For example, MSE asked if I lived with a partner, how much did my partner earn, what my occupation was. RBS did not include any of these questions in their assessment of my application.

My reality is, I am now about to become a part-time student, whose long term partner works full time on a £30k salary. I have no dependants, not do I have to contribute any money towards rent etc. as this is covered by my partner.

The credit card I currently have (Lloyds) was taken out nearly two years ago while I was a carer and a £1,200 spending limit. No late payments, payments well over the minimum. It is from this card I wish to transfer the balance from.

I am at a loss as to what action I can take next to transfer to a 0% balance trans CC if my first application has been rejected.

Anyone have any advice????

Thanks

  • Given your situation, you would be better seeing if your partner could get a card to BT your balance to, assuming he's happy with that.

With your seemingly high utilisation and soon to be low or zero income, you have very little chance of being accepted for a decent offer, unless Experian are happy to lend it to you.
  • Thing is, my financial circumstances are better now that what they were 20 months ago when I took the Lloyds card. Back then, I was listed as 'homemaker' rather than a student, plus I was asked about my partners income. Maybe, this small change to my status is the reason for the decline???

My whole reason to switch to a 0% card is to cut down on the interest currently being paid, and now that I am going into eduction, allow the card to be paid off quicker.
